Building Of The Year (TOBY) Committee

2008 Committee Meets

One of our goals at BOMA Columbus is to recognize excellence in office building management, and to honor the office buildings championed by those owner and management teams. Each year, BOMA International sponsors a national awards program with that goal in mind; beginning at the local association level and culminating with the International competition.

BOMA does not reward buildings merely for flashy architecture or slick finishes. All facets of a building's operations are thoroughly evaluated including tenant relations programs, community involvement, emergency evacuation procedures, continuing education for building personnel and overall exceptional service.

Regional winners were announced at the BOMA Winter Business Meeting held in Miami, FL in January, 2008.

This year's Columbus Regional winners are:

Corporate One Federal Credit Union - Under 100,000 sf category (Patti Childers/Corporate One Federal Credit Union)

The Motorists Insurance Group - 250,000 sf - 499,999 sf category (John Kunz, The Motorists Insurance Group)

Capitol Square Office Building - Renovated Building category - (Ken Kuzma, The Hertz Investment Group)

They will now compete at the International level in Denver, CO at BOMA International's North American Commercial Real Estate Congress and Office Building Trade Show in June, 2008.

Primary Function: To plan, organize and conduct a bi-annual competition to recognize local buildings according to the guidelines provided by BOMA International.

Composition: The TOBY Committee shall be made up of Four to Ten individuals appointed to serve for a one-year term. Members of the Committee are divided into the following categories —

Committee Chairman
Co-Chairman (must be the BAE or Board of Governor)
Vice Chairman
Conventional Members

Duties & Authority: It shall be the duty of the TOBY Committee to:

Advocate participation in all categories of the competition and design promotional materials including a "Call for Entries" letter and list of rules.
Develop and implement a schedule of events including —
1. Promotion of entries
2. Deadline of entries
3. Judging of entries
4. Announcing winners
5. Awards presentation
6. Thank you letters
7. Return of portfolios to entrants
Maintain consistent, but reasonable communication with potential entrants
Recruit and organize judges
From time to time, coordinate the operation of the Regional Contest with the assistance of the BOMA Columbus Administrative Executive (BAE).
Announce progress of the TOBY Committee at monthly luncheons when pertinent.
Present awards to winners and promote the event to as many local publications as possible.

The duties of Committee Officers shall be:

Committee Chairman —

Establish goals for the Committee (First Quarter)
Shall preside at all meetings of the Committee
Shall see that orders and resolutions of the Board of Governors are carried out
Account for the Committees activities and goal achievement (Year End)

Co-Chairman —

Shall act on behalf of the Chairman in the Chairman's absence
Shall act on behalf of the Vice Chairman in the Vice Chairman's absence

Vice-Chairman —

Shall keep minutes and proceedings of all Committee meetings
Prepare notices and agendas for Committee meetings
Shall act on behalf of the Chairman in the absence of the Chairman and Co-Chairman

Meetings & Communications: Regular meetings of the committee shall be held at least six (6) times throughout the year at a location approved by the Board of Governors through the Administrative Executive (BAE).

The Chairman or Vice-Chairman shall give written notice of each meeting of members. Delivery of notice shall be by mail, e-mail or facsimile as appropriate.

Each meeting must be followed up within 10 days with minutes to recap the proceedings. Minutes shall be prepared by the Chairman with the approval of the Administrative Executive (BAE). Additional reports and/or budgets for special projects may be required at the request of the Board of Governors.

Resignation & Removal: Any Committee member may resign at any time by giving written notice to the Board of Governors, through the Administrative Executive (BAE) at the BOMA Columbus office. Such resignation shall take effect on the date of receipt of such notice or at any later time specified therein. Any Committee member may be removed from the Committee, with or without cause, by the Board of Governors.
